Summer 2009 Internships

We are now seeking interns for the summer of 2009!

Our internship program runs for 10 weeks in the summer.

This summer our full-time interns will choose a research topic of interest to them, related to one of our focus populations. They will also assist the Institute in research issues related to Michigan's mental health code. At the end of the summer each full-time intern should have a publishable article that the Institute will edit and for which the Institute will seek publication. We will also compile our mental health research into a publishable format and seek publication in legal journals or community publications. Our interns will also be involved in weekly activities sponsored by local community organizations, and will visit these organizations and their programs to experience and observe issues of injustice first hand.

Although we do not have funds to pay our interns, we are a non-profit corporation and we will work with our interns to help secure funding through their school programs and other funding sources we know are available to students engaged in public interest activities. We will also do whatever is needed to assist a student in receiving school credit for their summer activities. We also have some free housing available.

If you are interested in participating in our internship program, please email a cover letter, resume, and writing sample to carter.alexander.institute@gmail.com to be considered for a position. All applications are due by March 15, 2009. Interns will be selected by March 28, 2009.
